WATER SCIENCES RESEARCH LABORATORY – NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC SCHOOL OF ALGIERS

National Polytechnic School of Algiers
The National Polytechnic School of Algiers (Ecole Nationale Polytechnique d’Alger-ENP) is the first and the oldest engineering school in Algeria. It has produced 8790 engineers since the independence of the country, and is currently forming 1497 engineering students and a significant number of doctoral students, with the supervision of 177 lecturers engaged in research. Their academic training takes place in thirteen departments; one of them is dedicated to preparatory classes. They are provided with eleven research labs ensuring the research/academic training of doctoral students in different fields of engineering sciences. The school, due to its structural polyvalence of disciplines, is a pole combining excellence in the field of technology and engineering sciences. Its close and institutional relations with industrial partners in different fields of education and research generate a rich and innovative environment in phase with the current and future challenges, in order to perpetuate its educational missions for engineers and highly educated researchers.

Water Sciences Research Lab (LRS-EAU)
Research among the Water Sciences Research Lab (LRS- EAU) is taken over by more than 80 researchers, devoted to a large field of themes related to water sciences; mainly the ones that are related to water quality and pollution, drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, integrated management of water resources and hydraulic structures, sediment transport, fluvial hydrodynamics, simulation and finally to porous media. The results of the preceding research studies have an impact on several sectors such as hydraulics, environment, energy, industry, agriculture, spatial planning…
The LRS-EAU lab favours the experimental approach, the numeric approach and the simulation of the gathered database. It makes easier the technological transfer and the application of the available information in management and decision-making. The lab, through its fundamental and applied research studies, aims for ensuring a reasonable and sustainable water use.
It also contributes to research and education in the different water-related professions by taking part in animating programs that are launched by public authorities in the field of water. And this is achieved by the valorization of knowledge and the transmission of results for all the interested users. It elaborates studies and applied experimentations, in order to manage and synthesize of information on water quality, pollution types, environmental protection…
The lab is composed of 82 researchers and 5 research teams working on different themes and projects, all related to water sciences.
Besides, a multidisciplinary group of 09 members’ work is taking part in the European project-ERANETMED IRRIGATIO project since 2016. Its nominative list is the following:

The team, thanks to its multidisciplinary features, owns a certain expertise in the evaluation of the water quantity and quality; in terms of transfer mode, treatment type and reuse possibilities particularly in the agricultural field.
The experience that has been attained in years by the team members concerning the characterization of urban effluents as well as their expertise concerning the treatment process and impacts on agricultural cultures and soils, gives them a finer apprehension of water valorization for several reuse possibilities.
